About these units
Recipes measure liquids, and often dry ingredients, by volume. The trouble is that a cup is not the same everywhere: a US cup is about 236.6 mL, a metric cup (Australia, Canada, New Zealand) is 250 mL, a Japanese cup is 200 mL, and US nutrition labels use 240 mL.
Spoons differ too: a US tablespoon is about 14.8 mL, a metric one 15 mL and an Australian one 20 mL. This converter covers volumes only. Converting cups of flour or sugar to grams depends on the ingredient's density.
