How it works
The calculator turns each date into a day count and subtracts. By default the start date is counted and the end date is not, which is how most people count “days until” or “days since”.
Turn on “include the end date” when both days should count, such as a holiday from 1 to 3 March (3 days).
The years, months and days breakdown counts whole months from the start date. When the start day does not exist in a later month, the last day of that month is used.

Worked example
From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 is 364 days: 52 weeks exactly, or 11 months and 30 days. Including the end date gives 365 days.
Questions people ask
Does the count include the start and end dates?
The start date is included and the end date is not, unless you turn on “include the end date”, which adds one day.
Are leap years taken into account?
Yes. Every date is placed on the Gregorian calendar, so 29 February is counted in leap years.
