About these units
Type and layouts are measured in points and picas in print, and in pixels on the web. CSS defines fixed ratios between them: one inch is exactly 96 px, 72 pt or 6 pc, so 16 px equals 12 pt.
A CSS pixel is a reference unit, not a physical dot on your screen: high-resolution displays draw each CSS pixel with several device pixels. Units such as em and rem depend on the font size and so cannot be converted with a fixed factor.
