About these units
Electric current is the flow of electric charge. The ampere is an SI base unit: one coulomb of charge passing per second. Household circuits carry a few to tens of amps, electronics milliamps, and sensors microamps or nanoamps.
The old CGS system had its own units, the abampere (10 A) and the statampere, which are now rarely used outside physics texts.

Questions people ask
How many milliamps are in an amp?
Exactly 1000 milliamps.
How do I convert amps to watts?
You need the voltage: watts = amps × volts for direct current or resistive loads.
What is a microamp?
One millionth of an amp, the scale of current drawn by a watch or a sleeping sensor.
